Our theme scripture today is Matthew's capture of a profound statement of truth made by the Lord Jesus Christ after His glorious resurrection. He said, "All power is given unto me in Heaven and on earth". First, notice the phrase "ALL POWER". The word power is translated from the Greek word Exousia which means authority. So, this actually mean all Authority. Note that He didn't say some power but all power. The English dictionary defines Authority as the power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience. All authority connotes absolute authority. There is no authority greater than His. He can rescind, override and nullify any rule with its associated decrees from any authority but His own can't be overthrown.

Secondly, take notice of the words "IN HEAVEN AND IN EARTH" which talks about the jurisdiction of the ALL AUTHORITY with regards to geographical coverage. This means His authority covers all the world. He holds the most supreme and utmost authority in heaven and earth. Heaven as well as earth bows to the Authority of Christ. This should bring to you a deeper reverence for the Lord Jesus. In this world, leaders of nations don't exercise their constitutional power of rule beyond their nation's borders. But the authority of Christ knows no boundaries. Hallelujah. Philippians 2:9-11 clearly describes this amazing authority "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father". This is how great He is. Honor Him that way. Let this knowledge stir up your confidence in life. How could you fail when the one who holds absolute authority in heaven and earth is with you?
