And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.— Revelation 1:6
There are two important callings common to every child of God, which are the calling of a king and that of a priest. That is what our theme scriptures conveys. It says, "And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever". He doesn't say He will make us as in referring to the future. This is what we are in Christ. 1 Peter 2:9 calls us the royal priesthood. That means a kingdom of priests. It is vital to understand these callings for your effectiveness. As a priest of God, your function is to offer spiritual sacrifices to God. 1 Peter 2:5 tells us, "Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ". These sacrifices are largely in our praise and prayers to God. Additionally it also covers our giving and instructing others in the word of God. As a king you reign, enforcing the rule of God's kingdom in the earth. Romans 5:17 says, "For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ". As a king you make declaration on basis of God's decrees in the word. You speak forth God's word in the earth thereby bringing to bear God's will in the nations. That is the responsibility of a king. You ensure that there is order. You judge any disorder in the spirit with your decrees of God's justice. In this you are authorized by God to use the name of Jesus which the most powerful seal of approval. God's word (which encapsulates His will) is settled forever in heaven (Psalm 119:89). But now it is your responsibility as a king to have it established in the earth and in your life.
