PEACE WITH GOD

When the first man Adam sinned against God (Gen 3), he lost God’s presence and consequently became separated from God. The bible says Adam and his wife eve were hiding from God. They were afraid of God. Enmity had come between God and man. When Adam sinned all people sinned, because Adam carried the seed for all humanity. The seed of man became corrupted in its very nature. Colossians 1:21 attests to this truth that we were enemies of God. From that day man has never had peace with God. It has been like two nations at war. The religions of the world are a manifestation of human quests for peace with God through legalistic traditions and rituals. However, these religions at the summit of their performance have no capacity to yield peace with God. That’s why Jesus Christ came. He did not come to establish a religion but that man can have peace with God. Romans 5:1 Tells us that “being declared righteous by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”. This means peace with God is only attained in Jesus Christ. Man has to believe in Jesus Christ and his vicarious work (death and resurrection) to have peace with God. In Christ Jesus you are given God’s right standing and you are accepted in God’s sight. This is the work of the grace of God and not of any religion or personal good works.

You may be known as a man of peace in your community, country, home or school but you may not have peace with God. We are living in a time when the cry for world peace is loudest. However, without peace with God the future of humanity is eternally pathetic. One may win the Nobel peace prize and yet have no peace with God. Mark 8: 36 says “what shall it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?” You lose your souls in hell because you never had peace with God and Peace with God is only possible when one is born again through acceptance of Jesus as Lord of your life.
