LESSONS FROM ISAAC IN GERAR

Levie Gomagoma Genesis 26:2-3
The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, "Don't go down to Egypt, but live in the land where I tell you to live. Stay in this land, and I will be with you and bless you. I will give you and your descendants all these lands, and I will keep the oath I made to Abraham your father"
Genesis 26:2-3

In Gerar of the Philistines there was famine and people were migrating to Egypt in search for food. Isaac came to Gerar to see king Abimelech. God spoke to Isaac as given in our anchor scripture, instructing him to stay in the land and not go to Egypt. He obeyed the Lord as Gen 26:6 attests, "And Isaac dwelt in Gerar". God said to him, "I will be with you and bless you". That's all Isaac needed. He had enough human reasons of joining the trail of migrants to Egypt but He chose God's voice. Remember Isaac was the seed of Abraham, with a heritage of blessings. Imagine this blessed man would have been like anyone else running down to Egypt. But Isaac chose to follow God. Let God's direction be principal in your life even when it may not be naturally palatable. Even if it doesn't make sense naturally, follow it. It will pay you dearly. Proverbs 3:14 (NIV) declares about God's wisdom, "For she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold". You will surely profit in following the Lord.

In verse 12 we are told something remarkable that Isaac did and the experience he had in Gerar, "Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold, and the Lord blessed him. And the man waxed great and went forward, and grew until he became very great. For he had possession of flocks, and possession of heads, and a great store of servants, and the Philistines envied him". Isaac was not idle in Gerar, he sowed seed. Don't sit idle because you received a prophetic word about your promotion. If you believed that word, act out your faith. Remember faith without deeds is dead (James 2:17).

He became prosperous in a land deemed undesirable. If he didn't follow God's instruction and act out his faith in sowing in the land, he would have lived a life of a commoner while having a rich lineage. In your life don't just follow the multitude, follow God's voice and act out your faith. By His guidance and His blessing at work in you, abandoned places can be turned into highly valued and profitable sites. You can experience God's mighty financial blessings in a company where people are resigning from due to its present financial stand. Walk by faith and not by sight.

Confession
I walk by faith and not by sight. I am moved by what God says. My faith is active and working by the power of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus name. Amen
