In our opening scripture, Apostle Paul by the Spirit instruct Timothy to flee the vices He had told him in preceding verses. That word "flee" comes from a Greek work "fyoo'-go" which means flight or to run. There are certain things that God instructs you to run away from. And this is not weakness, but strength. He didn't say negotiate but flee. Before you think of physical flight, this has to be an attitude you are armed with within, a flight attitude. Today I bring you some three areas or vices upon which the scriptures applies that word "flee". These are sexual immorality, the love of money (covetousness) and idolatry. 1 Corinthians 6:18 (ESV) says, "Flee from sexual immorality". Sexual immorality covers all illicit sexual engagements such as fornication, adultery, pornography and homosexuality. When these appear, in whatever form, flee like Joseph did before Potiphar's wife. Your strength is not in negotiations but flight.

1 Timothy 6:10 says, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs". Don't become a slave of money. When money control people, they can do all sort of evil. While money answers all things (Ecclesiastes 10:19 NIV), you should never subject yourself to it as its slave. When you love money, you become its slave. One key way to master money is giving. Lastly, 1 Corinthians 10:14 instructs, "Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry". Idolatry is the esteem and veneration of whatever thing or person in place of the true and living God. In most places, the old idol shrines have metamorphosed into various forms.

Sometimes there are rituals, camouflaged as traditions, where people offer sacrifices but not to the true God, the Farther of our Lord Jesus. Such should be avoided at all cost. Idolatry is a fellowship with demons (1 Corinthians 10:20) and through such practices people open up to evil influences. In your walk of consecration, you will be required to flee these. When you face such situations, take advantage of God's grace to flee. It's called safety by flight!!
