It is a common sight in scriptures that the Lord gives instructions to His people for appropriation of victories in their lives. When faced with a tough situation at the red sea, God spoke to Moses, "But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea" (Exodus 14:16). This instruction God gave was strange and did not appeal to science. Nevertheless Moses obeyed and Exodus 14:21-22 says, "And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left". That instruction was key for them to experience that historic victory.

When Israel fought against the Amalek, Moses with Aaron and Hur went up the mountain while Joshua led the battle on ground. Exodus 17:10-12 records, "As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses' hands grew tired, they (Aaron and Hur) took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword". Their victory was guaranteed by having Moses hands lifted. This was God's inspired direction to Moses. It did not relate to science or any proven military strategy but that's what actualized their victory. It was a spiritual strategy. In Luke 5, we find a record of Peter and other disciples experiencing a historic catch of fish after acting on an instruction from the Lord: "Take the boat into deep water, and put your nets in the water to catch some fish" (Luke 5:4 NCV). The instruction sounded familiar but when they acted upon it, they had a catch so great for their net to carry. This catch was hidden in the Lord's instruction. While skill is vital, always take heed to God's instructions. The instruction may sound familiar, unfamiliar, strange or unscientific sometimes. However, act upon it and you will always have a testimony. Always pay attention to God's instructions in your life and be prompt in carrying them out without grumbling. They are key in the appropriation of the victory which is already secured in Christ Jesus.
