In our opening scripture Jesus spoke to Jairus the ruler of the synagogue upon receiving a sad message of the death of his daughter who had been sick. Jesus was actually on the way to heal the daughter but had an interruption of the woman with the issue of blood. Those who carried the message told Jairus, "Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?" To them this was the end of the road. But Jesus told Jairus, "Do not be afraid; only believe". He helped Jairus stop fear from encroaching his heart by keeping faith. Upon arriving at Jairus house, Jesus said to the mourners, "Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but sleeping" (Mark 5:39 CEV). They scorned Him but at last He raised the daughter back to life. Faith had prevailed over negative facts. The people reported facts that the daughter was dead. Fear is the submissive recognition of such facts while faith stays with God's absolute and all conquering truth.

As children of God, walking by faith is our necessary life style. 2 Corinthians 5:7 declares, "For we walk by faith and not by sight". That means we are dictated by God's truth and not sensory perception and facts. There is no shortage of news that seeds fear in the world. Therefore, make deliberate effort to give your attention to faith building substance. Only the Word of God has power to build your faith. Romans 10:17 attests to this, "faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God". This means faith comes by hearing God and you hear God through His word. This is how faith comes and is built in your life. Your faith is a shield for quenching all the fiery darts that the enemy throws at you (Ephesians 6:16).

When negative news show up, counter-vocalize with God's truth concerning the matter. Walking by faith is neither living in denial nor positive thinking. It is not naivety as some may suppose. Rather it is living by the truth of God's word through which you always win.
