The Word of God should always have preeminence in your life. God’s word was given for our profit. This means it is for our advantage. This is what Apostle Paul was communicating by the Spirit to Timothy in our theme scripture. The Word of God should never be relegated in your life. Hold God’s word dear always. As given in our opening scripture, the Word of God is profitable for doctrine, which means through the Word, God teaches and instructs you in Christ. This also signifies that the Word of God gives you substance to teach others, thereby spreading Christ’s influence in your world. Furthermore, the Word of God corrects and reproves you if you happen to be in the wrong. This entails that the word helps you live well disciplined lives in God’s sight. In Matthew 22:29 (BLB) the Lord Jesus told the Sadducees, “You go astray, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God”. Without the Word of God, you will go astray in your dealings in life. And if you have strayed already it is the same Word of God that has power to bring you back into the right path. It doesn’t matter the mistakes you might have made in life, if you give yourself to the Word of God you will be mended. With the word of God broken hearts get healed.

God’s word is the instruction manual for the life of righteousness in Christ. When you buy a new appliance, there is a manual book which gives guidance on its use so that you have the maximum benefit from it. This mirrors what the Word of God is to us. The true Christian life can’t be lived outside the Word of God. Without the knowledge of the Word of God you will struggle to live the righteous life. Psalm 119:105 declares, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”. The absence of the word of God means darkness in your journey in life. With the light of His word in your life, your path in life is lit up, giving no space to struggle and confusion. A life without the Word of God is characterized by confusion, desperation and hopelessness. Furthermore, the word of God equips you to be complete and ready to do what God wants you to do (2 Timothy 3:17). Treasure God’s word in your life and you will live the glorious life you have in Christ.
