Every child of God is a king and a priest unto God. This is what we are told in our opening scripture. This is also what 1 Peter 2:9 (TPT) relays: “But you are God’s chosen treasure - priests who are kings, a spiritual “nation” set apart as God’s devoted ones….”. This means we are king-priests of God. Kings exercise dominion. They reign over territories. This was what was given to man in the beginning as indicated in Genesis 1:26 “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth”. Man was made to rule over all that God created. However, when man sinned he ceased to reign. He became a victim and was no longer in control. Jesus’ redemptive work was God perfect solution to restore the kingship to man, with a better and supreme quality than Adam had. Now in Christ, we are ordained to reign over all forces of evil and worldly systems. Romans 5:17 (AMPC) declares, “For if because of one man’s trespass (lapse, offense) death reigned through that one, much more surely will those who receive [God’s] overflowing grace (unmerited favor) and the free gift of righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself] reign as kings in life through the one Man Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One)”. As kings we reign in righteousness by words declared in the name of Jesus. Kings make decrees. We operate by the most supreme authority of Christ and everything bows to the greatest name of Jesus. You are not a victim in Christ.

Secondly, God has made us priests. The priest’s role in the Old Testament was to offer sacrifices to God on his behalf and on behalf of the people (Hebrews 8:3, Hebrews 7:27). Furthermore, they were also ordained to instruct the people according to the law (Malachi 2:7). This tells us about the aspects of prayer and preaching the word in the New Testament. In prayer you offer spiritual sacrifices of praise to God and also intercede for others. Hebrews 13:15 enjoins us, “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name”. This is our priestly role. 1 Peter 2:5 states, “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ”. We are God’s holy priesthood ordained to offer spiritual sacrifices to God. Live out this calling.
