There are things God instructs us to uphold till the end of this age. How do you sustain the passion and attention towards them without diminishing? The Holy Spirit is the sustaining power for your passion for the Lord. He is that fire you require for a consistent productive Christian life. Our theme scripture tells us to guard what is given to us by the Holy Spirit. Think of the parable of the 10 virgins (Matthew 25:1-13). Five of them, called foolish, didn't take enough oil to sustain their lamps through the night, a sign of ill preparation. Different from them, the other five, called wise, had enough oil to sustain their lamps through the night in waiting. Do you know there are God's children who have become drained, burnt-out and passionless in their walk with the Lord? They have lost what they once treasured in their hearts. Some believers used to preach the gospel with zest but now they don't even remember the last time they talked about Christ to anyone. It is through the Holy Spirit the fire within you gets sustained till the rapture's trumpet sound. Waiting without the Spirit leads to spiritual burn out. In Revelation 3:1-3, the Lord reprimanded the Church in Sardis. At that time many in the church had lost their esteem of certain things God gave them. He said to them in verse 2, "Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee". The Holy Spirit helps you keep what the Lord has deposited in you. If you neglect His ministry you lose treasurable things. He is the force behind the sustenance of your love for the Lord.
