HAVE CONFIDENCE AS YOU PRAY

Levie Gomagoma 2 Samuel 2:1
It happened after this that David inquired of the Lord, saying, and “Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah?” And the Lord said to him, “Go up.” David said, “Where shall I go up?” And He said, “To Hebron.
— 2 Samuel 2:1

For many people, prayer is a mere religious engagement. That is why you don’t really show confidence as they pray. Prayer is a real time communion with the eternal God. David was one person who openly demonstrated that prayer to him was a real communion with the living God. When faced with trouble, like we see in our opening scripture, he would enquire of the Lord in prayer whether to pursue the enemy or not. He knew prayer works. He knew God hears and answers prayer. That was the reason for his confidence as he prayed to God. He conversed with God and he was given direction. In the New Testament we have been given better things than David had. Today, we have the gift of God’s righteousness in Christ and this makes us freely and boldly confident before the Lord (Romans 5:1, 17). Hebrews 4:16 declares: “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, which we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need”. He encourages us to be confident as we deal with the Lord in prayer. If you are weakly and beggarly in prayers, you become ineffective spiritually.

Observe carefully the boldness with which Jesus prayed to God as recorded in John 17:1-5: “When Jesus had finished saying all these things he looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the time has come. Reveal the glory of your Son so that he can give the glory back to you. For you have given him authority over every man and woman in all the earth. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him. And this is the way to have eternal life—by knowing you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth! I brought glory to you here on earth by doing everything

you told me to. . And now, Father, reveal my glory as I stand in your presence, the glory we shared before the world began”. He was confident in God His Father. John 11:41-42 captures the inspiring prayer He prayed at Lazarus’ grave: “Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me”. This is inspiring confidence in God.

Prayer
Dear Father, righteous and Holy, I thank you for the privilege of prayer. You have qualified me to stand in your presence, in righteousness and true holiness. Thank you Lord because you hear me. In Jesus name. Amen
