In 1 Thessalonian 5:17 we are graciously instructed to pray unceasingly. This instruction signals the priceless benefits we have in prayer. Knowing the potential and tendency for giving up in people, the Lord encouraged in our opening scripture: “men ought always to pray, and not to faint”. This also tells us that we can always prevail in prayer over any situations. The earthly life of our Lord Jesus was heavily characterized with prayer. He is our perfect example. And that is the life the early church saints lived, they valued prayer. Prayer should never be taken as an optional additive or recommendation but a necessity. It is not something you do when everything seem well in your eyes. You don’t have to have a list of prayer items for you to pray. The greatest prayer is that of praise unto God. And then remember that you are God’s watchman in this world and you watch over the nations in prayers. Prayer is a key responsibility in the priestly ministry we have received in Christ.

1 Samuel 12:23 brings us the admirable commitment to prayer that Samuel the Prophet had: “As for me, I will certainly not sin against the LORD by ending my prayers for you. And I will continue to teach you what is good and right”. He refused to give up and throw off prayer for the children of Israel. As far as He was concerned, He would live His life in commitment of prayer for God’s people. Never allow any good thing or seeming bad experience quench your prayer passion. Have you been praying for something for so long that you feel tired? Don’t faint or become frustrated. There are cases you must persist in prayer. Hear the comforting words of Jesus Christ in Luke 18:7-8: “And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily.

Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” Don’t give up, you will prevail and have a testimony in Jesus’ name.
