It is important to ensure that the ambitions and desires you nurse in your heart are not in conflict with God’s perfect will for your life. At one point in time the children of Israel desired to have a king like other nations, a thing that displeased the Lord. Even after the Lord warned them of the oppression they would endure in the reign of that king, they still insisted as shown in our theme scripture. God told Samuel, “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king” (1 Samuel 8:7 NIV). Learn to stay in your lane in the journey of life. What may be good for others may not be good for you. God helped in choosing that King who happened to be Saul the son of Kish. Later on trouble emerged just as the Lord had forewarned them. King Saul oppressed them and did not obey God and consequently his kingship did not continue.

We are warned in Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death”. Do not be wise in your own eyes. Function with God’s wisdom in your life. God has a definite purpose for your life. You are unique in His own making. To stay in your lane is to stay focused on God’s path for your life. Develop contentment in God’s will for your life. That’s where God’s grace for you is. Having a human king was working for other nations but it wasn’t God’s perfect will for Israel. The Lord says, “I am the LORD your God, who teaches you for your benefit, who directs you in the way you should go” (Isaiah 48:17). That way you should go is your God designed lane in life. Stay there and be satisfied. Don’t just go after what is popular. Prioritize God’s perfect will and never allow your environment sway you out of God’s plan. Stay in your lane.
