In our previous study we learnt that the Holy Spirit is God's seal on the believer in Christ. Today I call your attention to another wonderful description of the Holy Spirit, which is the guarantee of our inheritance as indicated in our theme scripture. 2 Corinthians 1:22 indicates, "He put his mark on us to show that we are his, and he put his Spirit in our hearts to be a guarantee for all he has promised". This shows us the special role that the Holy Spirit plays as regards to our inheritance in Christ. Let me define to you what a guarantee is. A guarantee can be defined a pledge to pay someone's debt or to perform another person's obligation in the case of default. No one could guarantee for God except Himself by the Holy Spirit. From the definition it implies that the Holy Spirit has a special role in helping us experience our inheritance. Paul was not referring to something in the future but the present. The Holy Spirit is the divine password of our inheritance in Christ. This means you can't enjoy your inheritance without the Holy Spirit. He is the very assurance of our heritage in Christ. God seriously and desperately wants us realize and enjoy the inheritance He has given us in Christ. And there is no doubt to the certainty of this access because God Himself, and not man, is the guarantee through the Spirit. As you fellowship with the Spirit, you will know with full assurance and certainty the rich inheritance you have and you will be empowered to enjoy it.
