The word "burden" in the opening scripture is different from the one we learnt in our previous study. While burden in our previous article meant weight of challenge or trouble, today's comes from a Greek word "phortion", which means task or service. This means burden of service or task in accordance to God's purpose for your life. There are things which only you must do them. Let me give you an example from the passion of Christ. As the roman soldiers led Jesus to Golgotha, they compelled Simon who was from Cyrene to carry Jesus' cross. Matthew 27:32 records, "And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross". Though compelled to do it, I want you to see that act of Simon as carrying a burden of trouble as learnt in our previous study. Having reached Golgotha, it was Jesus' responsibility to die on the cross. To be crucified at the cross for the whole world wasn't Simon burden but Jesus'. No one could do this for Him. It was only Jesus who was supposed to do that according to the Father's will. He had to carry His own burden.

There are things you will not delegate in life. You don't delegate the fulfilment of your purpose to another. These are things you are accountable for to the Lord. Don't entertain excuses for not doing them because God doesn't accept such. Acts 13:25 (HCSB) testifies about John the Baptist saying, "Then as John was completing his life's work, he said, 'Who do you think I am? I am not the One. But look! Someone is coming after me, and I am not worthy to untie the sandals on His feet". John completed his life's work as purposed by God. He alone was to be that voice crying in the wilderness for the preparation of the Lord's way. That was his burden and he wouldn't delegate it to anyone. Galatians 6:4 (NLT) instructs us, "Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won't need to compare yourself to anyone else".

You have your own work of service to accomplish which you must give attention in your life. This is what it means to carry your own burden.
