And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants— 1 Samuel 18:5
In our previous study we learnt about how David didn’t retaliate in attacking King Saul. David would have been killed by Saul if not for God’s protection. God’s protection he experienced stemmed from the effects of God’s wisdom in him. One has to yield to that wisdom so that it functions through you freely. This is why our theme scripture today indicates that David behaved himself wisely. In 1 Samuel 18:14 we get this affirmation: “David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the Lord was with him. Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him”. If God’s wisdom is not working in your life, you become a victim of the world’s evil and corrupt influences. God’s wisdom brings divine alertness and shrewdness. It is a special empowerment to see, detect and act accordingly with the Spirit’s speed as is fit for the occasion. This is spiritual prudence. With this you evade satanic attacks and traps.
Proverbs 27:12 concurringly asserts, “The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it”. Prudence dwells with God’s wisdom. It’s the tactical and practical display and outworking of God’s wisdom in your life. It is a crucial part of God’s defense system for His children. That is why Proverbs 4:7 states that wisdom is the principal thing. To behave wisely is to function by the wisdom of God. Allow God’s wisdom work in you and flow through you. You subject your mind and heart to the Word of God. God’s word is the encapsulation of God’s wisdom. Through His Word you receive divine wisdom. This makes you prudent. 2 Timothy 3:15 tells us that God’s word is able to impart divine wisdom.
Psalm 119:8 states that God’s commandments makes you wiser than your enemies. This means, irrespective of the attacking strategy the enemy uses, by God’s word you have the upper hand. Meditate on His Word until it forms a force within you that causes you to act swiftly and rightly even beyond normal reasoning.
