The bible informs us that King Saul of Israel was rejected by God and he lost his kingship. The Lord replaced him with David, of whom He testified to be a man after His heart as shown in our opening scripture. The major difference between David and Saul was about loyalty of heart. Saul cared so much about himself and the people while David’s heart was after God’s heart. This was about loyalty of heart towards God. Saul was loyal to himself and people while David was loyal to God. Hear the recollection of God’s commendation of David as record in Acts 13:22 (MSG): “After Saul had ruled forty years, God removed him from office and put King David in his place, with this commendation: ‘I’ve searched the land and found this David, son of Jesse. He’s a man whose heart beats to my heart, a man who will do what I tell him.’ The Lord affirmed that David wanted what was on God’s heart and He was confident he would do what He wanted. A heart after God is such that is moved by God. This was the attitude that Jesus had. He was very loyal in heart towards the Father. Take notice of His loyalty in the prophetic voice of Hebrews 10:7, “Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God”. His heart was beating after God’s will. When Peter made effort to dissuade Him from facing the divinely planed vicarious death, He said to him: “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God’s purposes, but men’s.” (Matthew 16:23 NASB). This shows you how passionate Jesus was about God’s will. He was a man after God’s heart. This is the way God wants you to be in life. Don’t be like Saul who was concerned about his interests and that of the people, a thing that costed him the kingship. Let the will of God be the primary consideration of concern in your life. Don’t accept things which excites everyone except God. When your heart is after God, His will is your goal.
