ONLY TWO ETERNAL DESTINATIONS
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt— Dan 12:2
There are only two eternal destinations for every human being. One will either spend eternity with God or be forever separated from God in the lake of fire. This is the prophetic insight that Daniel shared in our opening scripture. What he called “eternal life” is eternity with God while shame and everlasting contempt is eternity in the lake of fire. There is no middle or neutral ground when it comes to your eternal destination. 1 Thessalonians 4:17 shows us the eternity with God: “Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord”. It’s called forever with God. Revelation 20:15 sheds light on the eternity without God: “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire”. This is eternal damnation to those who knew not God. In Luke 16:19-31, the Lord Jesus shared an insightful true story that augments the notion of two eternal destinations. In the story both Lazarus and the rich men who are the main characters died and suddenly realized they were in two different places in the spirit. These places are termed “at the bosom of Abraham” and hell. Hell is just a stage of the lake of fire. The Bosom of Abraham is the place with God and eternal comfort.
This eternal destination is determined while men are alive. It is not sensible to say you shall see when you get there. The destination depends on whose child you were, either of God or the devil while on earth. It has nothing to do with your economic or social status in society. Those who accept Jesus Christ, will spend their eternity with Him while those who rejected Him will spend their eternity in the lake of fire where there will be everlasting torment. Matthew 25:41 tells us that hell and the lake of fire was never created for man: “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels”. This shows that God loves man and that is why Jesus paid the price through His death for man. But since man is free moral agent with the power of choice, others will end up in the lake of fire. Make a wise choice not to end up in this place of everlasting torment.
