For several days we have been learning about the full armour of God based on Ephesians 6:10-17. Apostle Paul closed the subject by encouraging the Church in Ephesus to pray always in the Spirit. This tells us that prayer is also a piece of weapon in the full armour. And specifically, he mentions praying in the Spirit. He emphasizes that with all kinds of prayers, we must pray in the Spirit. This is what is also referred to as praying with your spirit or in unknown tongue. In 1 Corinthians 14:14-15 we see that praying with the spirit equals praying in unknown tongues and it is a priority: “For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also”. Through this praying, the Spirit of God provides you the necessary inspiration that anchors the usage of the other pieces of weapons given in the previous articles. 1 Corinthians 14:4 says, “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself”. One important synonym to the meaning of “edify” is inspire. This tells you that as you pray in unknown tongues you receive inspiration as your human spirit gets activated. If you neglect prayer in the Spirit, the other pieces of weapons in the full armour of God become as common things.

If you are prayer-less, the word of God which is truth becomes common to you. When you are prayerful in the Spirit, every time when you study or hear the word of God you get the necessary inspiration. It is also worth noting that most of times rhema is delivered when you are praying in the Spirit. The other thing is that as you pray in the Spirit, you speak mysteries. 1 Corinthians 14:2 declares, “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries”. In these mysteries, you are delivering precisely guided missiles in the spirit to demolish satanic structures and systems. This thwarts the enemy’s initiatives and renders his plans ineffective. With all this truth given in this article, just know that if you pray in tongues, you are gaining significantly. Never trivialize praying in the Spirit.
