PERFECTING HOLINESS IN THE FEAR OF GOD
Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God— 2 Corinthians 7:1 NIV
Perfecting holiness in the today's theme scripture means complete holiness. It signifies the all covering holiness. There are those who think holiness is just about their hearts and they ignore their physical bodies' engagements. They would erroneously say, "All is well with me in my heart" while ignoring the discipline of their bodies. While holiness begins with your heart, it has to flow through your body as well. There are sins of the spirit and also of the body. Our theme scripture says, "let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit". For instance envy and anger are sins or contaminants of the human spirit while fornication contaminates your body. Perfecting holiness is about living a consecrated life in your heart and body also.
1 Corinthians 6:20 (PNT) declares, "Therefore bring glory to God both in your body and your spirit, for they both belong to him". You are supposed to bring God glory both in your spirit and body. Romans 12:1 enjoins us to present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which our reasonable service. Get your body to do those things that honor the name of the Lord Jesus. Be clean in heart and body. Don't think it's not possible. There is provision of God's grace for us to live that kind of life while we are here on the earth. You don't live that life by human strength. The trust in human strength only brings frustration. Lean on God's everlasting grace. The way you live in heart (attitudes) and in body (behaviors and characters) is vital to God. Don't be in error of considering one and leaving the other.
